VIOLINO D’AUTORE

Ho avuto la fortuna di trovarmi tra le mani una partita di legno proveniente dalla soffitta di un vecchio liutaio dilettante della Romagna. Tuttavia quel legno, ottimo per la sua acustica, non rispettava i parametri estetici della liuteria contemporanea. Dovevo scartarlo? Considerato il mio rapporto  con il legno buttarlo mi era sembrata una intollerabile violenza. Potevo trarre da quel legno ottimi violini, e potevo renderlo “bello” ricorrendo all’arte visiva.

L’incontro con Mauro Bellei ha dato vita al progetto “Violino d’Autore”, che è la combinazione di diverse arti con il violino. Ogni strumento di “Violino d’Autore” è realizzato artigianalmente ed è un unico. Gli artisti invitati a intervenire liberamente sul violino, e provenienti da diverse discipline, si sono espressi con la loro identità artistica: il poeta, l’artista, l’attore, il compositore, il fotografo e tutti gli altri.  Il progetto nella sua stesura originaria prevedeva la decorazione di dieci violini, che poi sono diventati una mostra di sedici violini, una viola e un violoncello. La mostra è la conclusione naturale di un’esperienza che rispetto al mondo della liuteria è da leggersi come un processo di trasformazione. Il dialogo tra le arti ha permesso allo strumento classico di mutare, senza cambiare forma e senza mutare il suono.  Il violino decorato è rimasto un meraviglioso produttore di suoni.

Lo strumento musicale, dopo essere stato trasformato in opera d’arte torna alla sua funzione naturale: la musica.
 

 “VIOLINO D’AUTORE” English Version

“Luckily I found a stock of wood in the attic of an old, amateur violin maker living in Romagna. The wood was well seasoned and very valuable from the acustic point of view, but not “beautiful” enough, according to the current aesthetic criteria for  violin making. As it was not “nice-looking” it  seemed  to give me no other choice but to throw it away.

The relationship between a violin maker and the wood is very special. I felt that to discard the wood would be an umbearable violence, so I decided to make it “beautiful” with the help of  other forms of art”.

The meeting with Mauro Bellei  give life to "Violin d'Autore" Progect , it is the combination between differents forms of arts.

Each violin is handmade and a unique piece of art. It was with this concept of uniqueness in mind that my project “Violino d’Autore” took form. From an early project of 10 violins, we ended up with a set of 16 violins, a viola and a cello. They have all been graphically transformed through the “contamination” of several Italian artists from various fields of the artistic world. They were set free to express their talents directly on the instruments.

The exhibition is the natural conclusion to a long experience of sharing which, in the classical world of violins, certainly represents a transformation. The skill of various artists (poets, painters, actors, composers, philosophers, photographers, journalists, etc.) were  joined together through a musical dialogue, accomplishing the transformation of the most classical of instruments into something different: not in shape nor in sound but in its third dimension, which is appearance.

The main focus of the exhibition is  the production of music through a series of concerts: the violins remain wonderful acustically and their essence is enhanced through the music. The concerts are a way to allow the instruments to return to the world to which they belong.

A catalogue with critical and literary reviews will be published, together with a CD featuring  the filming of the violing making process.

The project could be described in a few words: first, the violin is born as a musical instrument, then it becomes a work of art and finally it gets back to being musical instrument.
